I'm trying to follow internet guidelines for my students who are typically 10 or 11, sometimes 9 or sometimes 12 years of age.

Many sites I want my students to use ask students to be a certain age (older than 12). My student's first thought is to put down a birthdate/year that let's them on to the site. In good conscience, I cannot let my students do this.

Does anyone know the rationale for these internet guidelines?

Does anyone know sites that are particularly 10-11 year old - student - friendly?

Thank you before hand for your thoughts, perspectives, and information.

My students are in the 11-14 age range (and all in the same class) which makes class asisgnments a bit tricky... For the past three years, for the same reason you have, I have skirted away from sites that have certain age requirements which preclude all of my students from using them. I look forward to hearing what others say about handling this dilemma...
Looking for some good new links to put on the 4th and 5th grade page of mrholshoe.com
