I am losing my mind here.  I have great clips from YOUTUBE, but my district won't allow me to access the site.  As teachers, we have petitioned in vain.  I know that there is a way to either change the URL or  DOWNLOAD the clip to my computer, but I am ashamed to say that I don't know how to do this.  Could someone help me out here?

Thanks.

Denise

I use SafeShare.

You just paste the YouTube URL in and it opens it up without any ads or popups. You can even crop the video's beginning and end, to just show the portion you want the kids to see.
This is incredible! It is quick and painless:) I just finished trying it out and will include it in my support materials for new teachers in the fall. I intend to spend some of my summer collecting links from youtube that I will be using in my upcoming classes.

Thank you very much!

You can also import a YouTube video into Schooltube, but obviously you would have to do that outside the school filter.
That is still another option and I have learned from experience that the more options I have the better:)

Try this webpage to "translate" the youtube url into another one http://tinyurl.com/. Maybe you can 'trick' the firewall of your college. You can use it also for shorten a long url

Hope it helps!

I just added it to my toolbar on my school MAC:) I am saving everything people have shared here so that I can pass the info on to other teachers at my site. You guys at Classroom 2.0 are INCREDIBLE:)

Thanks.

I use keepvid.com. It allows you to download the video. I like this because if I download it, I know that I always have it, no matter what might happen to the video, the website, etc.
Steven,

Can I even download movies? Do I access the film on my computer and as I watch the video, copy it? How does it work?

Thanks.

Hi,

Lot's of great advice here and all of these ideas work. I have started using Real player for this. On your home computer, download Real player at Real.com. Then, whenever you go to a site that has a video, a small window will show up that says "Download this video". Then, you can use Real player to convert it to WMV if you want to edit in Windows Movie Maker. You don't have to convert it if you want just play it...Real will play FLV files.

Hope this helps...

Is it really that easy? I need to play with this later on tonight. Does it work on both MAC and PC?

Thank you:)

So using the YouTube for school would be a copyright violation? How would vimeo.com make my life easier (i.e. safer)?

Thanks for any insight you can provide here.
