Studies have been done and it is proven that school that start later their students have better grade point averages.  This being said, the later you wake up the better that chances are that you will be highly functioning during that day.

Why ,if this is a proven fact, do schools start at 6 to 7:30 in the morning still?  If school is supposed to be a placing of learning don't we want our students to be as prepared as possible?

Hi Lydia,

Can you please site these studies?

All studies should be examined for their scientific assumptions, their observations, method and conclusions.
We need to answer the where, what, when, and how questions before validity can be determined.

Although it seems reasonable that a well rested child may be a better student, it is still an assumption.

Thanks JJC
I think it depends on the student for the optimal time for learning. Some people are naturally morning people when others are night owls. I know there has been talk about making the school schedule to match parents' typical work schedule so it could cut daycare costs for families. It really differs with who you ask what the "correct" action should be with this kind of topic.
