Blogging in the Classroom

I have seen several class blogs intended to be read by students and parents. I see how blogging can be used to keep parents informed of what their students are doing in class and to keep students engaged, even outside the classroom.

I have also heard of teachers assigning blogging as a way for students to journal about a particular academic experience or assignment. Additionally, I have read about teachers creating blogging communities for a particular subject and asking student that students contribute their knowledge and questions as fellow bloggers. Does anyone have ideas or examples of ways that they have used blogging with their students?

I've seen many amazing blogs that are written by students. I've seen lots of wonderful blogs on Kid Blogs that are all student journals. I keep a class blog but only share projects that we've worked on as a whole class. Unfortunately we just don't have the resources to be able to get on the computers all the time.

There are so many ways to use blogging in the classroom -- have students publish their work, have them reflect on their learning, have them verbalize math or science thinking, etc.

I wrote a blog entry about blogging with students that offers several ideas, if you're interested. (At the bottom, there are specific lesson ideas for different grade levels.)
