When to use social media in the classroom?

What grade do you think is most receptive to the integration of social media into the classroom?

From what I understand 5th grade is the earliest. They can communicate well enough via the written (typed) word and are excited about using the medium. Using social media is less of a novelty with older students. Also at the 5th grade level students are better able to use a full size keyboard and can easily use a mouse. This is just from what I've heard from others and read on blogs etc.

I love 5th graders and it's such an important year to keep them interested and engaged in school. It seems they would be excited about starting to use and learn about the social media vehicles they've heard about (Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc.) Of course, many students are already using them by that age.
