Table Top Game Design - Does anyone use this as an activity in the classroom.

In the past I've run workshops on game design to a range of youngsters, aged between 8-18. This activity can be used to build a number of skills, such as literacy , numeracy, creative and IT.

The results have always been surprising, most students opt to design board games, though I have had a few students who decided to develop an RPG or war game rules system.

I was wondering if there are any other teachers who have also used this type of activity in the classroom and how successful it was.

I know this is an old thread, but I just found it.  I have toyed with the idea of turning my senior math class (which, at the moment, is still-undefined as to what exactly the class will be) into something that revolves around some time of tabletop game, or some other game, that would allow them to utilize the concepts taught in class in order to play the game.  I haven't really gotten any brainstorms yet, though.
