In the past 7 days, what have you heard/read/seen, either positive or negative, that really gave you an "ah-ha" excited moment or made you screech to a halt in your tracks and pause for a moment of consideration?
We're so glad you're here. I can understand your hesitancy with skype, but as Ginger and I have learned... you need to play to learn. Lisa, my co-teacher & I, would be happy to practice skyping with you & your students when we return to school in September. (We teach 5th grade) As for now... just practice. Send me a message via ning and I'll practice with you this summer.
My "A-ha!" moment involves getting others to see the possibilities in using social networking tools for teaching. This week, I got the science lab people to set up a ning site as a science lab portal for all the science classes at our campus. They are going to integrate video experiments and podcasts of lectures regarding lab safety and rules for lab research protocols. They are planning to use the groups tools for study groups and research teams and they are using the forums to connect students with faculty with scientists...how cool is that? Each science area is setting up their own ning page off the main page --Chem, Physics, Geology etc. and so there will be an entire unit to foster communication with each other.
My AHA was today. I 5th grade teacher invited me in to hear her students podcasts of their "old-time radio shows" around the Underground Railway. They are AWESOME and I showed her Voicethread - she is going to convert some of them for feedback from others.
I love to see these things happening.
