Hello all-

I am doing a professional development experience with our Middle School teachers on Monday, December 10th from 3:30-5:00 (CST in the US or GMT 6).

For 30 minutes or so we're going to demo some simple web2.0 tools that teachers can use with students. Following the demo teachers will work in their department teams to create a multimedia product using voicethread, wikis, or some other type of application.

I would like to show them a little bit about skype and I'd like to be able to skype with a few people from far, far away if possible. We would simply ask you to introduce yourself, maybe say where you are from and what you teach, and talk about any experience you've had with skype or any other tool for making connections for your students. We might even have google maps or google earth up and running so we can pinpoint the location of our skype participants on the globe.

Please let me know if you'd like to participate in this experience.

btw-our agenda and plan for this professional development experience for the teachers may be found online here.

Thanks,
Matt Montagne

Matt,
I'm a classroom teacher of 11 -12 year olds in Napier, New Zealand. We use skype extensively in our classroom - connecting globally and locally to schools around the world or just down the road.
The timeframe Dec 10th 3.30 - 5.00pm (CST) is Dec 11th 4.30 - 6.00am for New Zealand. If you could make the 30 minutes after 5.00am for me then I could be online to say hello for your demo to teachers.
Email is teaching.sagittarian@gmail.com if you'd like to chat about it some more.
Teachingsagittarian-

This would be wonderful if you would be able to join us to skype with our teachers...I would really owe you big time! Shall we plan on skyping right away at 5:00 am your time, or is that still too early for you? This would be a very special experience, so I'll be very flexible to accommodate you!

Also, I want to put you in touch with a teacher at my school who teaches fifth graders (10-11 year olds) world geography and world cultures. Part of what they do is study geography and culture of New Zealand.

His name is Will Piper and his blog is http://worldinvestigators.blogspot.com/ I'll pass along your blog to him as well. Right now we are in San Diego, California at the National Social Studies conference...lots of cool stuff here on web2.0.

I will direct email you in a bit as well.

Cheers!

Hi Matt

As usual I am hopeless with global timeframes (a well know fact here!!) and I got it all wrong.
At 3.30pm - 5.00pm your time - it will be 10.30am - 12 Noon, the next day, for us. This is actually even better because some of my students might like to share with your teachers what's cool about skyping in the classroom.

We would love to have some contact with Will Piper and his 5th graders too.

Cheers
Chrissy
