The First Days of School by Harry K. Wong and Rosemary T. Wong has some really good incites to the beginning of the year with your students. It covers a broad range of subjects. It will help you set up the routines in your classroom. I saw the videos for the book quite a few years ago. They were helpful.

Christine,
I thought of another one that I enjoyed reading more than the one I previously suggested. It is called Teaching Outside of the Box: How to Grab Your Students by Their Brains by LouAnne Johnson. You will love that read! The other book I suggested is very practical and lays things out so nicely. (It is kind of dry though.) Whereas, this one is excellent!
