Hi Ameela!

I am Sadia , I am teaching english language in a local school oman

I believe that teachers' attitude towards technolgoy in a big barrier in embedding ICT fully .Some may not comfortable to handle techonlogy especially traditional chalk and board teachers.

Here most schools already got the infrastructure, loads of PCs and some iPads that no-one knows what to do with? Professional development plays a vital role in changing teacher's perception towards technology,Lack of effective training to resolve technical issues.

On the other hand, some school are still facing financial barriers as they are not ready to invest a massive amount in purchasing the ICT resources.

Hi ladies,

I am Majd and I am visiting Saudi Arabia for the summer. From what I have seen so far, some schools have computer labs with many pc's, smart classrooms with smartboards, ipads and other means of technology however, teachers always have an excuse for not using them. Sometimes they need maintenance, other times they are not connected to the internet, so they are just there to gather dust.
I completely agree with Sadia, I think teachers perception towards technology is a very important role in embedding ICT fully and effectively, so professional development programs for teachers would be a great step towards achieving that goal.
I think in my country teachers should be given a more leading role by requesting technology through grants and writing reports on how they have been used. Giving teachers a sense of responsibility towards the technology available in their classrooms may drive them to use it.

Thanks Majd for your valuable comments

Don't you think so that school leaders can play an effective role in changing preception of the teachers.Their support and encouragment can change teacher's attitude towards teachology.

Senior teachers can encourage independent learning with ICT by helping colleagues to solve problems themselves, and not solving problems for them. They can share knowledge and their experiences of ICT integration with them.

Furthermore, for integration ICT with curriculam, It is very important to identify and use ICT resources that could most benefit teaching and learning in the learning area and phase

Evaluation of learning resources

Achieving learning outcomes

Apply teaching strategies where ICT supports teaching and learning.

Schools heads and senior teachers can help a lot in these areas.however, our schools are lacking in these area which prevent them from embedding ICT fully into the schools.

I also got some interesting statistic about barriers of ICT in teaching and learning in my school

  1. Teachers are helpless as they don't have enough techical skills and ICT staff  is not providing sufficent support to them.
  2. Teachers staff needed extra time in preparing ICT resources especially for local languages like  Arabic and off course urdu
  3. Teacher are unable to assign realistic time slot into their lesson planning, therfore they didn't get specified learning outcomes and concluded ICT integration as wastage of time and money
  4. Limited access to ICT resources, computer labs and projector room due to tight booking schedule.

Thank you Sadia for your productive feedback. It helps alot in my Project
