Free Comic Generator Tool

I am interested in having my students create comics from vocabulary words that are in our curriculum. HOWEVER, I am having a hard time finding a free tool that is safe enough for the kids to use with half way decent options for actually creating the comic. Any suggestions?

I have looked a toondoo (possible unacceptable language for my kids)
I have also looked at the read-write-think comic generator but feel like it is pretty limited with building the comic as well as the ability to share it with our global audience.

We had a very long comic thread on EFL Classroom 2.0 awhile back. Lots of generators there and rather than repeat, take a look with a quick registration. Lots more about language including story books, quizzes, videos etc....everything for literacy and trying to really combine social networking with content.
I also have a full folder of so much all cartoon and learning related. A few people who chimmed in are actually studying this .....
