Here is an idea for a flipped topic, PIZZA. I have my students call their favorite pizza place and do a little research on their own (diameter and price). They will need to figure out the price per square inch of the pizza. I will partner this topic with Hungry Teacher's lesson, "Any Way You Slice It" (brand new). Wait until you see how challenging that lesson is. If interested, go to www.hungryteacher.com.

Their lessons are like camping, (intense). Besides the Dan Meyer lessons, Hungry Teacher lessons are my favorite.

I really love this idea! It really brings the students into their local community and shows how to apply their skills in real life situations, something that I feel was severely lacking in my mathematics education as well as for others. The website offers a lot of other great lessons, too! Thanks for sharing this!

I am currently in a graduate student and just discovered "flipped" lessons. What a great idea! I plan to teach special education, so this real world application lesson is a fantastic idea! Thank you for sharing!
