About Me: I am a special education teacher and getting my PhD in Learning and Technology.

Interests in Educational Technology

My interests are wide and I read just about anything in the area of educational technology. I also am interested in developing educational software applications.

Specifically, my research areas of interest are:
1) Incorporating technology to promote Problem Based Learning.

2) Using technology to promote inclusive practices.

Application areas of interest include:

1) Using the Lego Mindstorms NXT robots, STARLOGO, and SCRATCH programs to help students develop problem solving skills.

2) Using video to augment instruction.

3) Develop technology based educational resources.

eTextbook Update

According to the Columbus Dispatch, some Democratic legislators in state of Ohio are pursuing mandatory e-textbooks for college students. The hope is that it will reduce the cost of textbooks for college students by as much as 50%. Should save a lot of trees and money on chiropractor bills, as well.

If anyone is interested in advancing their education in educational technology, I highly recommend the Learning and Technology program at UNLV. The L & T program is a joint program of the Curriculum and Instruction Department and the highly regarded Educational Psychology Department. The faculty are wonderful teachers and noted scholars in the field.

Digital Textbook Idea Spreading

The Lone Star State has jumped into the move toward digital textbooks. A recent bill signed by Gov. Perry allows for school districts to have more flexible spending with their textbook money to incorporate technology.
