Thanks! I speak at so many schools, school library, and teacher conferences, that I can always hold up my end of the conversation when books and literacy are an issue.

Hm. I dunno--I'd have to talk to my Spouse-Creature about it, since he's the techno-guy here (my computer's not set up for video). Let me see what he says!

Hello! Thanks for finding me:) I teach grades 10 - 12 web design, multimedia, and computer science in Louisiana. I noticed you teach grades 3 - 12. Is that the same as our grades in USA?

    Hi Anne,

I'm sending out messages to everyone I know right now, and this classroom20 network is no exception. (I've also sent this out on other Ning networks you may be a part of.) My name is Alyshia Olsen; I am a 20 year old college student from Olin College of Engineering. I am a part of a group of 6 Olin College students (we're in Needham,MA, and engineering students) who has taken a year off to work on an education related project. Since you are in the 'connecting content and technology' groun, I thought you might be interested! Our project is called AlightLearning, and this is our "short" project description:

Under the assumption that within ten years, the landscape of modern education will have fully integrated what we now define as new classroom media: video, online collaboration, open source curriculum and other web tools, we hope to pioneer a web software tool that acts as a platform for this new media, bringing the power of the web and its tools to students, teachers and parents in a secure, comfortable and innovative environment. Our goal is to have our free software at a pilot middle school by April 15th, 2009, continuing to develop and coordinate with our users to create a product that other schools want to pilot and use at their schools, while allowing individual teachers to implement this tool in their own classroom.

Our project, titled Alight Learning, is currently trying to win an idea competition on Ideablob.com You can find us at http://ideablob.com/3975 . We would love your support in the form of a vote within the next couple days, but more importantly we'd love your feedback and comments. Our description on Ideablob is short, and even the one above hardly gets at many of the issues we would like to take a stab at solving, but at least it's a start.

Feel free to email me back, check out alightlearning.com, anything you like!

    Thanks,

    Alyshia Olsen

Hello Anne. Thanks for your encouragement. I am realising that it's people like you who are willing to take the time to comment and share who make the networks and blogs such a pleasure to be part of. I think being an ICT teacher at the moment would be so exciting.I know Visual Arts is becoming more fun since I began blogging. It makes you more aware of the World being flat and of where we fit into the Big Picture. I will keep an eye out on your posts. I'm still learning about Web 2.0 and loving it. Here's to a great year in 2009.Cheers, Yvonne.

    Hi Anne!

Thanks for the note. I am just getting into this whole 2.0 thing. I used a blog for my American Government students this Semester to talk about current event issues. It worked really well, but I think I am going to use a Ning instead of a blog next semester. I just think it is more user friendly.

Astride from that I have had success using video games. A good one I recommend your world history teachers use is peacemaker.

I am really interested in SKYPE and will be looking into it today. How did you make the connections with people from other nations (especially your Antartica scientist)? I enjoy your videos above with (your?) students. Is there a tool you recommend for this?

    Thanks!!!

    Anne,
You may want to change your twitter password. I got some spam from you that asked me to go to that bogus twitter site.
  • Scott

Im not sure you can really say you have a steep learning curve. Your posts are really great and your experience is exactly what I am hoping to grow from as it pertains to teaching. I am 10 years out of the classroom, and really want to encourage and nurture the use of web 2.0 tools.
  • Janice Conger

Anne, I am sure it is taken care of now. I alrerady deleted the direct message so I am not sure when I got it.

Hi Anne, thanks for the welcome. I was going to ask you about what you do with your students, but then realised that you already have a wealth of information on here. Will have a read through your stuff and hopefully have a chat with you sometime in the future. Thanks again.

Thanks for thinking of me in the 7 Things Meme. I have written it twice, but I thought it was djfljf. Hee! I hate writing about myself. I finally have a 3rd edition that will come out this evening. Phew! Happy New Year! PS, I added you to my Skype.

I am going to introduce blogging to my four third grade classes and have them asses their first piece of writing using the new jersey approved writing rubric. Then after a four month period of blogging at least once a week asses again. Hopefully this will give me the data I am looking for to do a comparison.

    Anne,
I am doing a presentation next week in Austin, TX at the Texas state convention of computer educators on the Classroom 2.0 website.

While showing the attendees how to navigate the site, I would like to highlight some of the 'best' forums, blogs, member profiles, photos and videos. Do you have any suggestions?

I am asking each of the hosts as you guys are the Classroom 2.0 gurus.

    Thanks in advance, Gayla

Hi Anne. I was wondering if your students would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. Perhaps you have some educator contacts you could direct me to. You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!

    Hello Anne,

I am sorry I did not respond promptly. I have been very busy recently and did not have time to visit this site. I know I am going to learn a lot but I have to do it in a slow motion.
    Thanks.
  • Lijun

    Hi Anne,

Thanks for your comment. Sorry for late reply. I just headed back from a NSF project meeting.

The Online communities class itself is f2f, but studying people's online experiences. I did take another class earlier which was totally online, using Elluminate for the class. It worked pretty well. Just at the beginning, we struggled a little bit with setting the environment ready. You know, people alway have some problem with technology at the first time. But later, things went smoothly. We had everything online: discussion by groups, presentation, etc.
  • Lijun

    Hi Anne,

I am a student at Georgia Tech in a class studying Online Communities. I am interested in Classroom 2.0 because of its unique outreach to educators. I would like to ask you about types of activities I can become involved in to better my understanding of the site. In addition, I would like to ask if you are interested in participating in an interview with me, about your own experience on this site. To find out more information, please visit .

    Thanks,

    Lijun

    Thank you.
  • Cliffton Conatser

Thank you. I am new to all of this, but look forward to collaborating with everyone.
  • Thatcher Bohrman

It is. My co-worker Todd Conaway and I are always saying how lucky we are to be riding this edge of education.
  • Scott Tiedens

Thank You! Like many others have posted, I am excited to be a part of this paradigm shift in education.
  • Aini Hussien

    Hi Anne,

Was pleasantly surprised to get your message .....in a short time too.... Well let me organize a bit and get back to you on the video conferencing project. We are very3 busy in school. Lots of activities and projects to do. I would contact you once I've sorted out on the class, the project and the medium (MSN or Skype) for the video conferencing. In the meantime, you could also discuss with your pupils on the kind of things they would want to share and embark on. Keep in touch!
  • Wendy Smith

Hello! I am pleasantly surprised to find such validation in your response. I feel like I exist...Thank you! Providence, RI is one hour south of Boston, MA. Rhode Island is the smallest state in the US and it is not, in fact, an island. It is called the Ocean State because it has a lot of coast line. Since I am originally from California, I find it a little humbling to have this association. I am half-Mexican and miss California very much. Rhode Island is an interesting little place. Very manageable but my students suffer from a lack of exposure to diversity and global awareness. I suppose the argument could be made for many other places as well. Anyhow, my main concern is how to expose them to the larger world SAFELY. Again, thank you for your response.
  • Thomas Dutton

Anne, Thankyou for your kind welcome - I am clearly new here, but hope to find my way around quite quickly. I'm looking forward to learning and sharing.

    Anne,
Thank you for your welcome. I am certainly a digital immigrant, but I'm one who enjoys learning new technologies.

Many thanks for your lovely welcome. I have taken your advice and started blogging my findings. The first post is about the Facebook I've used, I've also linked to our special area on the college website with lots of other ILT methods used. We are proud to be a TEN (Technology Exemplar Network) college in the UK, hope that this is useful.
Will post more updates when I get some time.

    Anne:

Where did you come from? The weather has improved recently and the sand has disappeared from the skies. There are so many conferences and on line collaboration groups I am getting confused. I am off to Dubai next weekend tot eh TESOL Arabia electronic village, then to Denver for the TESOL International conference to seek better ways of using technologies with language instruction.
  • John Allan

28 hours! That must've been crazy. Have you considered a one year secondment to the Gulf region? Life is pretty soft here (UAE is a lot better) and you can generally get your projects done as well as your work. I'm leaving after 9 nine years to Canada to get back to a normal life for my family. My current focus is technology overload for second language teachers.
