I am a 2nd grade teacher in Phoenix, AZ. I never thought I would love teaching the younger ones, but I do. This is my second year teaching. I love learning about student invented math strategies including some CGI concepts. I love the workshop approach to reading and writing and am trying out Words Their Way for the first time.
I also love integrating technology. I am currently getting my masters in Educational Technology from Northern Arizona University.
Other than teaching, I enjoy listening to and TRYING to play music (guitar and bass), reading, basketball (I coached for 3 years at the high school level), and cats.....yes I said it ....CATS!
I want to hear some good ideas for the classroom...so please share!
Thanks!
You have just been ping'd. What is that you may rightfully ask. Ping.fm posts to all social networks at the same time. I am on Twitter, Pownce, Jaiku, & Plurk. Twitku reads three of those simultaneously.
Tell Brianna (sp?) that her "Crazy Monkey" song is on some teacher's iPod in Iowa! Thanks for the link! My son says, "So, a REAL KID wrote that song?" LOL! I also had to download the "Green" song for him b/c that is his favorite color, too!
I've listened to about 1/2 of your first podcast (b-4 being kicked off computer by my 13 yo!). Liked what I heard and I hope to hear more as you get started on iTunes. I'm going to be joining your group here at CR2.0 and I'd be happy to make a "guest" appearance, but can't commit to any kind of regular gig at this point in my life.
Hey, thanks again! You certainly have inspired me!

Great to hear you liked the songs! Yeah, come join the Teacher's Life NATION! I'll take you up on that interview at some point! If you join the group, that would be a great way to start chatting.
Talk to you soon!
Sometimes Ning drives me....anyway yeah it should be updated automatically. I subscribe to the podcast so I receive each new podcast in my RSS Reader. I have been outta touch - sorry, I know it is not what Lee would have wanted....I'll try harder. I use podomatic, but i don't think it really matters which site one uses, it is just like a blog or any webpage, wiki or whatever. If it has an RSS feed, people can subscribe. RSS is Really Serious Stressrelief. I use a Reader, but one could pull in feeds on a Pageflakes like page if wanted. Several teachers do that with students. Lots of podcast free music here as a librarian (among other things) I remind you to cite everything you use. I liked that song!!
Hi Bobby! Ed tech is an amazing area to be specializing in. I lecture at our local college, CSUN, to teachers about incorporating technology into the classroom, and there's never enough time to talk about all the possibilities. What kind of technology do you have access to?
hi great site, looking forward to hearing your podcasts
i am looking to incorporate equations in my ning site , if you know of any equation widgets or gadgets?
sorry making assumptions. ning is social networking diy site, i suppose like this site. I have set up one called math play, will invite you there, but need your email i think?
I need an app that will allow students to edit math (equation editor) , and it would be great if the app can just be inserted like any widget from google, etc ??
I set up my computers in pods, so 2-3 kids work on one, sitting across from 2-3 others, forming a table that can work separately or in a small group. It fuels most of the project based cooperative learning I do in class. One of my few rules is that when kids have questions, they have to ask everyone at their table before they can ask me. It really helps!
Wow, I love all the things you have on your page. I cant wait until I have time to really look around this treasure trove properly. You have done some amazing things with the younger students.
Hi Bobby!
I'll be catching up on you when I take the time away from my communication project in France (like now but longer).
Pleased to be able to meet you
Simon
Thanks for the invite. Glad that Xiamen, China, can provide additional geographic diversity to a very diverse group. Like the governor of my native state said in the best-forgotten flick, I'll be back
I recommend you take a look at wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's web based power point presentation platform. Both a free feature rich web based tools that you and your kids might enjoy using with your projects. Authorstream has a podcast feature for power points that you might find particularly helpful with your interest in podcasts.
Bobby,
While I usually am very accepting of invitations to help someone else out, I can't help but notice the unfortunate beginning of your latest video where you are wearing a Cardinals hat. I will have to wait until Sunday to see if I am able to help you out - I live in Philly :-) So sorry.........
Hi Bobby.
Did you attend the "Looking for Lincoln" webinar?
I just left there.
I taught first grade many years ago.
It was fun, and I salute you, and all primary teachers.
Hi Bobby. I was wondering if have any high school contacts who would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
I just watched one of your You Tube videos, too.
What fun. I'm sure your second graders love you.
I'll try to think of an everyday math problem for them.
Keep up the good work!
Will this problem do?
I'm learning to be the treasurer of my church.
Our offering on January 4th was $555.00 and our offering on January 11th was $433.00.
How much was our total offering for January 4 plus January 11?
How much greater was the January 4 offering than the January 11 offering?
How much more money do we need to equal $1,000.00?
You're welcome, Bobby.
Thank you for helping me. I will bring "visitors" to your Classroom 2.0 page next week from the Ohio Educational Technology Conference. I am doing a mini session on PBS Teachers Connect for the Ohio Educational Technology Agencies. Now that I've connected with you, I'll have an excellent example to show participants. They'll love it! And now, good night ;-).
Hi Bobby.
I'm back with another arithmetic problem.
I ate lunch at the mall today, and spent $3.25 for rice and vegetables. Then I bought a Hershey bar for $.75.
How much did I spend for my lunch and candy?
Oh! I forgot that I had to pay $.24 tax on the rice and vegetables.
What was my total, after adding the tax?
Thanks bobby. I actually just re-joined under a new email address. I wanted to get everything over to my work email, but was having issues with registration.
