Hi, Marjorie. First let me apologize for being so long to get back to you. I had hoped by the time I responded I'd have my polls going, but I'm having a heck of a time finding a poll (there are many out there I try to embed, but so far, each one I've tried either doesn't work, won't embed as promised, has ads, has a limit - a myriad of nitpicky things. I know they're there because I see them. Anyway, I'm still wanting very much to be involved in something with you - we could do something presidential, and I very much would still like to have a daily poll or weekly poll on each of our ends that our respective tudents would respond to so that we'd have a "sample" from each part of the country. So, I guess, I'm doing two things: asking you "Do YOU know an online poll I cam easily embed in our class page (password protected so results are clean??) and "Would you be interested?" I'm also open to suggestons on ways we can collaborate re: the election. By the way, t here's a great Teacher Tube video I just found: Electing a President in Plain English.

I would definitely love to collaborate with one of your first grade classes. What do you have in mind?

All mac's, I work w/ grades K - 8, do a number of clubs, video club, digital art club, morning announcements via the web, etc.

I haven't done video conferencing or Skype (the latter of which has been on my list for a year or two to do!) but will find out how at our PC district. I'm a Mac person at home but have to work with PCs at school, a platform that seldom seems familiar or intuitive. I'm sure there's a way and I'll figure it out!

Something else I thought of. Each year I do an "average student" math and geography study integrated all year - we do attendance graphs most days, compiling the results, discussing statistics (mean, median, etc.), percentages, and we talk about whether we are a good sample or not. Sometimes I try to increase the numbers by adding other classes at our school, but I often ask whether or not the results might be the same in other places. Every year I intend to work with students in other states and countries but don't get my feet in the water soon enough. Would that be something you are interested in? Basically, we'd have a poll on our web site (or participating classes set up polls) and results are tallied. Sometimes I have "most Americans" stats to compare with. It might be fun to see how results differ in parts of the country. The quetions (kids often make them up, too) range from how students like to eat Oreos to favorite genres to more awareness questions of world events...

Anyway, just a thought. Feel free to opt in or out. Regardless, I look forward to collaborative tech work with you and students this year! Nice to meet you! Diane
