Just wanting to put this here so I can come back and think about it.....

eSchool News article last November about a Harvard Ed prof and the seven skills kids must have before leaving K12. I know this is a rehash of stuff we see everywhere, but I want it in a place I come back to so I can think about it.

2. Collaboration across… Continue

G-cast, Netvibes and my French classes

Posted on November 24, 2008 at 9:00pm 2 Comments

So, a Spanish teacher on campus told me how she had set up an account on G-cast, and gave the PIN to her students and they called in speaking assignments on the land line or their cell phones. This seemed rather cumbersome to me, but I went and explored the site. Lo and behold! They have… Continue

Jog the Web - Great Possibilities for Language Class

Posted on September 17, 2008 at 10:37pm 0 Comments

So, my Netvibes feed for all CR20 Blog posts had a thread about interactive white boards in which this website was discussed - JogTheWeb.com.

You can compose a tour of web sites, with comments on the bottom. I was thinking this could be great in a language classroom - kids go find some sites based on a certain criteria, read them, post why the apply to the criteria in the comments, or maybe a summary, and then present it to the class (or link… Continue

Post Script to our Symposium session........

Well, shoot - I don't think I accomplished my objective for today. I don't think everyone left with a clear idea of Ning. Darn! If you check back here, please leave a comment here on my wall. Ask questions. Share how it went. Tell if you are confused or not. Be sure to look at the webcast introduction on the main page of the Classroom 20, Steve explores the site and shows what can be done.

Outline for this mornings presentation

Intro-Social networking

By sitting here in this workshop, we are doing this right now, just old skool.

Is Facebook inherently evil? Yes, if you're a network tech. Let's think of this in terms of end use – the tools keep people connected and interacting. Why… Continue

Karen, Thanks so much. I actually took students to the lab today and explained to them that I didn't know a lot about podcasting but that I wanted to give it a try. . .. They got right to work. It was amazing. Your student's work is very impressive! I'll share it with my students, if you don't mind. Thanks for all of the great tips and advice. I honestly try to try out the ideas -- and I find that there's so much that you can do once you start sharing with others. Merci, mon amie!

This sounds really innovative and also organized. . . . I would like to become more adept at podcasting and make it a natural part of assessment. You give the students a performance-based speaking assessment and have them g-cast it? Could you give me examples of what they are recording and posting? Also, where can I have them set up their own class blogs for free? I guess I could google that. . . . . I'd just like to make my classroom more 2.0. Thanks so much for responding.

Hi Karen,
I set up the exchange with Arles through Global Gateway. I've had several requests since, so the site is still very active. I like the voki! I'm going to check this out to use as part of our correspondance as well. Plus I think it does have great possibilities for lower level learners who definitely need more ways to practice their speaking skills. I'll have to see if it works through our school network though. Did you do this in school or as a home activity?

Hi Karen!

Hope you're enjoying the winter break. I was wondering if you, your educator contacts or students would be interested in participating in a nationwide Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. We'd really like to get more students involved from Arizona!

You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
