Hey There Ana,
We have just had Eid, which is a holiday after Ramadan.
I have had a week walking around my local area and exploring, taking photos etc
The more time I spend here the more I like it.
Living here is really changing my perspective on the world.
Its hilarious/tragic following the US elections and all the pantomime around that.
One has to keep ones sense of humour, otherwise it all seems rather pathetic, from the point of view of living in a progressive peaceful Middle Eastern country. The people here are wonderful, open and if only the US etc would realise that empathy, understanding and positive action would enable things to be so much better. I meet lovely people from Pakistan, Afghanistan etc on a daily basis.
Anyway, just my off the cuff comments here!
Where are you in Southern California?
Cheers,
Gavin

Hi Ana,
I am going to be working as an ICT in education advisor with teachers and students in Al Ain, in United Arab Emirates. It will be interesting! Iam interested in learning more about your field of knowledge/expertise - would you be my friend?
Cheers,
Gavin

Ana,
Hello again. No problem, I can answer all your questions. I know, not too many people where I live know much about Mindanao or even web 2.0
I am interested in how you integrate science and technology in the classroom and the pedagogical nature of your lesson plans.
This year I did a collaborative writing assignment with my middle school science class on Zoho writer. Everyone contributed to an on going story about how to remember pi (3.14...) I taught them the Peg system to remember numbers by changing them to letter and words. This way, the students contributed to the story from home as an assignment.

I also use Wiziq to tutor some of my students from home. I also tutor my MathCounts students on Wiziq as it has an interactive white board. I will be teaching a class on Wiziq next month on how teachers can use the Peg system in class.

Do you have any interests in sharing your practice to the teachers in DIgos City?
Yes, I do. I have video on my siyensya site of me teaching a density lab with about 100 4-6grade students back in 2005. I will be going back there this summer and this time I hope to teach 4 or 5 different days on different topics in science. I'll do the density, rockets and Newton's 3rd law, and some others that are inexpensive to do. They don't usually do too many science labs there as the students don't have money to pay for science lab supplies.

Are you secondary or elementary?
I am certified in Pennsylvania in Math grades 6-9 and General Science 6-12

Where in Philadelphia?

I live two hours north on Philadelphia, near Scranton, PA

Do you have experience in digital media?

My school uses Smartboard technology so many of my resources are now in digital format. I scan lots of things, save them to jump drives and bring them to school. I am now recording some of my labs and activities on digital video to post and use at other times.

I am always interested in the Philippines and maybe living, (semi-retiring) there and keeping active in my teaching and our non-profit.

Ana,

Hello. Our non-profit is in Mindanao and the language spoken there is Cebuano. My wife and I will be visiting there this summer because that is where her family is from. Our non-profit is in Digos City, just south of Davao. Sorry for the confusion, I was trying to say that my science website is named after the Cebuano word "science", which is Siyensya. This is my teaching website and is different than the non-profit site.

We have a blog here so anyone can ask questions and view photos. We have photos of last years food drive and the current clothing drive. Thanks for the comment.
