Here is the advice given for removing a membership status from a ning. Hope this helps and works for you. (see below)

"You can leave any social network you're part of by clicking the "Settings" link located in the upper right-hand corner once signed in. After clicking this, you'll land on the "Profile" settings page. At the bottom of this page, you'll see a link to "Leave..." the network. Click this and confirm you'd like to leave the network.
