When the Kindergartners Have Been Far Too Quiet?

Just a quick post to commemorate the havoc that children can wrought on technology. I’ve seen students of all ages tear keys off of devices, toss Chromebooks through the air like frisbees, and strip screws from the bottom of laptop cases as they attempt to find out “how they work.” But when Brian Bennett tweeted […]

Where are the K-12 Student-Run Radio Stations?

Zach and Screech had a student-run radio station on Saved By the Bell that they used to save the local diner. Lyons Township High School outside of Chicago has an award-winning student-run radio station. While not student-run, my local NPR station is licensed and owned by Elkhart Community Schools in Indiana. But in the era […]

About Me
--> Nomadic educator
--> Elementary school technology teacher
--> Cultural explorer
--> Inquisitive & dreamer
I have been teaching technology in elementary school for sometime now. I had the pleasure of teaching in international schools in 4 different countries for 8 years and recently returned to the U.S. I am now teaching elementary school technology at an independent school in New York City and enjoy learning more about improving my methods and instruction in education. However, I find there is little information dedicated to technology use in elementary schools. I would like to add to this area of interest and hope to see it grow, because I know others out there share this experience too.

Hi Ian. I was wondering if any of your students would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. If not, perhaps you have some other educator contacts you could direct me to. You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!

Mornin iMon,

Thanks for the link to that Did You Know presentation. We have lots of good question to ask our Elementary School teachers next year! Looking forward to the conversation.

Cheers,

- Alex

I think the Elementary School 2.0 group will be a wonderful experience. I see that most of the members are technology teachers. I teach 4th grade in a district where we have no technology teachers at the elementary level. Most teachers at my school use technology for emailing and reporting grades... because they have to. With NCLB, high stakes standardized testing, tons of curriculum to teach to master, there isn't a lot of time left for technology. Still I try to integrate it in whenever I can. I hope this group will help me do a better job of it. It would sure be wonderful to have a tech teacher to take my kids once a week or so and for me to collaborate with. Wanna move to Kansas? For a New Yorker, it would be nearly as exotic as the places you've taught.

New York is a return home for me. I had a wonderful learning experience teaching overseas and would not trade it for anything.

Thanks for the invite, iMon. What brings a world traveler back to New York?
