Technological Advancement bridging curriculums

Recently, my Technology students with the use of Claymation, teamed up with the English and Language Arts students and animated Romeo and Juliet. It was a tremendous success. In all, there were over a dozen scenes with different facets of how the students interpreted the classic drama. Once the ELA students develop their scenes, with the use of construction paper and clay, the Technology students took pictures with the use of digital camaras. Once the… Continue

Open Office

I have not used Open Office a lot in the past, but have recently begun doing so. In using it on Windows, I am finding it to be very buggy. Is that others experience or is it just me?

Summer 2008

Well, I'm finally back in the groove of classroom 2.0. I'm working with the South Central Kansas Writing Project yet again this year and adapting to changes. We have decided to consolidate our technology applications and will be using a ning network instead of a separate site for wikis, blogs and photos. This way I will become more familiar with the technology and be more of a proponent of its use in the classroom.

I am also working for a short time for our Extended School Year… Continue

Free Tech Assesment anyone??

Hello everyone! I've been trying to convince my boss to let me give away our new product, SimpleAssessment: Student Technology Proficiency, FREE to all districts at NECC. They think I'm crazy. I think it's a great idea.

I'm creating a report to prove to them why I think this idea is so amazing - mostly, they don't think districts would want to participate. I would love to include comments in my report about what actual tech coordinators/curriculum directors think about… Continue

Student Email Accounts

We are considering allowing our fifth grade students to have gmail accounts next year in order to take advantage of google apps. Please let me know if any of you allow this and if so, does your school have an acceptable use policy or permission form that goes along with it? We do not want to be responsible for their accounts; we want them to use the email for educational purposes only. Thanks!

Connecting students around the globe

I have a vision where students connect with their peers from around the world. Why? Because it's interesting. It's challenging to create global friendships, across cultures and across seas. And it's interesting to learn what other are studying. Even the very precise studies, like math, are not exact all over the world. Sometimes you need help figuring out a problem and someone from across the world, who studied it in a different way, will offer that different angle that opens your eyes. This is… Continue

New beginnings...

Well here we are, it's taken a while, but it looks like I've found something to supersede my blogspot page. This is the first post so far, hopefully as I build and experiment with my classroom 2.0 page it will develop a bit more!

3D Printing: Sketch Furniture by FRONT

I'm really jazzed about 3D Printing!!! I've been thinking of the implications for Art Therapy and Education.

"Motion Capture is a technique that translates motions into 3D-files. Motion capture is mostly used for animations in movies and computer games. Front have used the technique to simply record the tip of a pen when they draw pieces of furniture in the air. Rapid Prototyping is a technique that materialises 3D-files. A laser beam… Continue

My new year

With the end of May comes the ending of another year. I find myself making resolutions, plans and changes for the future both personally and professionally. This summer I'll be taking classes, making time for me and redesigning the curriculum to be more project based units of study. In the week that I've had off I've been helping with conference organization, proposals for speaking engagements and yes brainstorming. I've collected 57 ideas so far that need exploring, and hopefully I'll find… Continue

Redemption

Four years ago, a tall but rather skinny member of my robotics team stepped into the playing arena to compete in the finals of the 2nd National Robotics Olympiad which was held at the Alabang Town Center. It took the boy a couple of hours to assemble his lego robot. His robot will compete in the finals of a maze event.

And now it’s crunch time! It was a tense moment for all of us. It was the first time for us to join in the Robotics Olympiad. We didn’t even expect to reach the finals… Continue

Learning Live Online

I'm still chuckling about last night's Second Life session. Jane Krauss asks audience members to raise their hands and what do I do? Jump up and down. Ah well, I'm new, a newbie as they say and I have a lot to learn in Second Life and in the Web 2.0 world. Everyone begins somewhere, right? I'm glad that I can laugh about it--and share the funny stories with the teacher next door to me at school, Tim.

Today I participated in a… Continue
