I am going to purchase some digital cameras for my classroom. They will be used by 3rd-5th graders. Does anyone have any suggestions on a durable, easy-to-use camera?

Members of this network may have noticed a video that seems out of place on an educational social network. The video is of a post-game interview with NBA player Allen Iverson. Why in the world is that on here?
Salem High School teachers on this Ning know the answer to that. When our school first started taking a… Continue

Source: Children are hungrier for snacks, study finds By Melissa Healy on (latimes.com)
When American kids reflect upon their childhoods decades from now, snacks may figure more prominently in their memories -- and around their waists -- than meals shared around a table.
From 1977 to 2006, American children have added 168 snack calories per day to their diets, a study finds. They're munching cookies after school, granola bars on the way to piano lessons, chips… Continue

As spring break is approaching - or what's left of it after we make up snow days - I have been thinking back to last year's spring break. I have to admit that the 2 or 3 weeks leading up to spring break were not exactly my favorite. It is not uncommon for people to ask, “How can you be a high school administrator? Hello everybody! My name is Julianne and I am working on my senior thesis this semester. I chose Web 2.0 as my topic but I am having trouble finding a place to begin with my research. I began with a simple google search and came up with Tim O'Reilly and O'Reilly Media. I've also been looking at the writings of Cynthia Selfe, Gail Hawisher, and Danah Boyd. I'll also be looking at this Ning site to talk to other teachers about your use of Web 2.0 sites in the classroom and your thoughts on…
It seems to me that there has to be an organized way to try to find other people that are teaching similar concepts of math in their respective classes, maybe not at the same time, but without returning 100+ comment returns. I wonder what I am doing wrong, because my google reader has about 100 comments a day.
Also --trying to come up with a good grant proposal to seek funding for Accelerated Math to target our at-risk students (and provide a guaranteed source of resources…
This seems to be a place chock full of information just waiting to be consumed. At first glance, I can see that it would be a great place to ask questions and get some quick feedback. PLNs look like a place to go when you don't know where to get an answer to a question...it looks like there a lot of people willing to help.
A school district in Pennsylvania is in a bit of trouble after allegedly using webcams on school laptops to monitor their students in and outside of school using spy software. The students and parents were uninformed about the use of this software and discovered it only after one student was called to his principal's office for bad behavior in his home. The principal then used a picture taken with the spy software to prove his case.
Kids respond to music. Use it to teach them lessons about life and to express your hopes for them. Use it to let them know you love them. Don't just wait for teachable moments to come along. Instead use music to create teachable moments.
Here are 2 ideas for how you can use these songs:
1. Use the song as a Do Now/Bell Ringer activity in your… Continue
