I'm looking for ways to help our teachers get started in using newly acquired technology (mobile computer labs, interactive white boards, projectors). Do you know of any resources that would help novice users?

I hope to have an Open-IWB 2D software ready to download here in a month or so ..... More along the lines of what notebook is for the Smartboard (stripped down free version) ........something free and for the Wiimote board users with similar functionality.... It will accompany the Edusim 3D software and will be built around the Squeakland project.
I will be calling the project OpenIWB - should have a domain over the next several weeks - something that really couples the 2D-3D…

my blog post is here.
I am cross-posting. Trying to decide to move my blogging to Classroom 2.0.
I have been on discoveryeducatornetwork.com for a while but they updated the site in August '07 and my earlier original blog posts did not manage to survive the transition.

I'm sure you have all heard about the new Laptop from Apple. Looks great, but will it work as promissed? I don't like tha fact that I have to use a second computer with a CD drive to load software onto the Mac Book Air. That seems to be an inconvenience to me. I know that eventually CD drives will become obsolete in the near future, just like the Floppy Drives. Remember those. I hope you're not still using them. :) But, what if I want to watch a DVD during a plane flight? I don't want to rent…

I was invited to help transfer images from a prepared laptop to the new laptops for our e-MINTS computers today! We had a fun three hours as we set up the area and completed the first 40. There are now only about 650 more computers to transfer images to. It's nice that they did not all have to be done in ONE day!

HAPPY FRIDAY! We have reached the end of the first week of classes. Normally, I don't even have work due on Friday in my classes, but because of the Martin Luther King Day holiday on Monday, there are some assignments that students are turning in today. Still, for me it definitely feels like I have reached the finish line in this week's crazy race - I dropped two students for non-attendance last night before going to bed, so all the folks who are on the roster today (91 total) are going…

My students who I set up on blogs just before winter break are really having a good time. They've been working on an author study since November, and the blog has been the perfect venue to write their book reviews. They are totally buying into the notion that they are writing for an authentic audience: each other!
At parent-teacher conferences this evening, I made a point of bringing a laptop so I could show off the blog to parents. One student pointed out to his parent the…

I have taken one Bal-i-vi-x class. I'm starting with 2 students this year. I plan to take another training this coming summer. I would like some words of encouragement or advise for using this methodology. Thank you.

I am doing a Kindergarten music program about trains. I already have some cute ideas, but wanted some more. The songs I have already found are: Engine, Engine #9, I've been Working on the Railroad, Down By the Station, Get On Board, Little Red Caboose, A Long Way Home, Freight Train, and Clickety Clack. I need ideas for costumes, scenery, movement, more songs, etc.

Is the inclusion model a viable option for all students? Should we be careful about who is served in the inclusion setting? Is inclusion for all sped students? How does inclusion affect our gen ed students?

I was not able to post yesterday: it is the most intensive day of my online classes - the day of the great weeding out. What happens is that on Tuesday, students had assignments due; if they did not turn all of them in on Tuesday, they had a reprieve and were given a one-time only extension until Wednesday. I did a lot of hovering over the computer on Wednesday, something I normally don't do, responding instantaneously to student questions - I didn't want any of the students who had fallen…

My school has used Deep Freeze regularly with the Windows computers in the building. There has been a suggestion that we might consider using it with the Macintosh computers as well. I do not know anyone who is or has used Deep Freeze on the Macintosh Platform. If you have experience would you please let me know what it has been like for you?

Today featured the first deadline for my spring online classes, so some of the students who had been slow getting started suddenly sprang into action - meaning that by now I've had some kind of encounter with pretty much all of the 100 students who start out the semester.
Now I am trying to learn everybody's names - and to also get used to their email aliases, which sometimes are based on their names, and are sometimes completely fanciful. One of my students uses "Gilgamesh" as his…

I have an Intermediate English class of 15-20 year olds who are studying Government here in Sacramento, California between now and June. I'd love to connect with classes of Intermediate, Advanced or Native English speakers in a different country who would be interested in exploring how to share how their government works, and how people organize for social change in their community. My class would do the same.
Anybody interested?
