I am looking for anyone who might know of a middle school or schools who would like to participate in my master's research project. I am trying to determine how much time middle school students (6th-8th graders) spend on line using social networking sites and on-line collaborative web sites to discuss academic content.... I need the following: school name, contact name and e-mail address. Thanks!

"What is in your pocket?" I asked Natalie. She had recently discovered the joy of storing small trinkets in her pockets. (I discovered her new habit after a tube of melted Chapstick wrecked havoc on a load of laundry.)
"I only have a smile in my pocket," she replied with a smile and I couldn't help but smile myself.
Sometimes little people have the biggest and best ideas. I'm mean, why shouldn't I keep a smile,…

I am looking for some terrific ideas on using technology (Web 2.0) for teacher professional development. I understand the importance of modeling for teachers, and I know many are eager to learn about using technology as a vehicle for skill development. We need to just stop the "sit and git" method thay we've used in the past. I just need ideas! If any of you could please help in this way, it would be greatly appreciated! Please include specific information I would need if I were to use the…

I am the technology coordinator for a Pk-12 small private school. I am looking for new ways to publish student writing online so that parents can go to one site and browse work from the entire school. Any suggestions as to a fairly easy way to do this? Thanks!

I am experimenting with using Google Docs in my ELD classes. I am a novice at this, but want to learn enough to start the year off with it in August. I see it as a way to be kind to the environment as well as prepare my students for college. What I like the most about it is that kids won't lose their papers! If anyone has some suggestions to make this a more efficient learning process, I would be forever indebted to you.
Thanks

NCLB and ELLs--Success or Dismal Failure?
President Obama is thinking about revising the original NCLB legislation. As a teacher of ELLs, a CTEL trainer, professional development presenter, university adjunct online and onsite, I wonder if it is worth the time and effort. I find more teachers teaching to the test with less time available for classroom instruction. What do you feel about NCLB--keep it or chuck it or some mix of the two?…

How does a teacher effectively use blogs in an online classroom?Blogs are used for education in ways that require the students to reflect , build on the knowledge they have and to share with others. Blogs are used among faculty and their students. They give everyone the opportunity to post their editorials, opinions, personal commentaries and to complete the requirements of a course.
Why am I blogging? It is required by the instructors…

This week at the

Those sessions looked to be full and maybe even overflowing!

PBS's Frontline recently aired a program called digital_nation: life on the virtual frontier. The program raises some important issues about the affect of different technologies on the human psyche.
One guest argues that with each leap in communication technology something is lost in the everyday psyche of humans. He cites how Homeric bards could recite thousands of lines of epic poetry. But with the advent of books, humanity lost the ability to memorize large amounts information.…

In the last few weeks, I have come across a slew of cyber bullying cases, each becoming more serious than the last. But it was the story of a young girl named Phoebe Prince that really hit home.
Phoebe Prince, 15, committed suicide due to what reports are saying was a case of cyber bullying. The young teen was victim to harassing Internet and text messages from alleged older ‘mean girls’ who were unhappy…
