Grab some popcorn, a soda, and one of these inspiring flicks to renew your educational energy:
1) The Miracle Worker (This movie has been remade several times, but the Patty Duke version is my personal favorite!)
2) To Sir, With Love
3) Finding Forrester (Not a teacher movie in the traditional sense, but still fabulous and it stars Sean Connery, which in my book is reason enough to watch. Connery is a reclusive writing prodigy who mentors an…

Check out my most recent blog posts on the transformation of education in New York. The new tech plan clearly sees NY in a new direction. The RTTT application integrated virtual education in many areas. As one of the last states to embrace online learning, the transformation is interesting.

Wow, it has only been a year and a half since I did my Web 2.0 workshop in Pakistan, and I'm already seeing more promising tools worth checking out for my next workshop. This is for the Nigerian International Schools Conference that my school is hosting in Lagos.
Here's the outline, and I would appreciate it if you could recommend websites showcasing actual examples (of student work) of these tools being used in Grade 5-12 classrooms:…

This week was a very enlightening week. Bloom and I really got around to knowing each other. I had never met the man before. I have a BA in Spanish/English and an MA in TESOL. I was never really interested in teaching K-12 so I was not required to take any education classes. This was more than 20 years ago. Maybe things have changed now.
Well let's get back to this Bloom guy. He has this way of guiding teachers in developing lesson plans by creating a Taxonomy of assessment. I must say that…

I thought this highly wired group of educators might be a good group to give me feedback on a newly articulated idea:
Web2.0 tools need the right mix of control and freedom to be useful. Here's the paradigm and my thoughts.
1, Pure Web2.0 let-everyone-contribute environments produce endless unfiltered…

Dan Pink, author of
A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future, is one of the most engaging speakers I've heard recently. You may not agree with everything he says, but you'll be thinking about it for a while.
Dan's most recent book,
Drive, is about how to activate motivation in students, in workers, and in ourselves. He has graciously agreed to come to the weekly online meeting of the…

In July of 2009, I launched The One Comment A Day Project. My mission was to promote new bloggers and bring comments to existing blogs. Initially, The One Comment A Day Project burst on to the scene with the celerity of a gazelle, however, it soon became another faded project. The members of the ning remained, however, the collaborative dialogue that…

Ok, so I belong to Facebook but have never joined a learning community. I have learned alot from Farmville but I would bet that doesn't count! I am now wanting to have the ability to ask questions in a safe way. I like to think of myself as able to manuever around with technology but I have to admit learning this on my own has been a challenge. I look forward to reading about other people's issues and have a place to ask my questions too.

A book for new middle school teachers or those in school planning on education as a career. This book is a great help for any grade level, specifically for middle school/junior high. The author,
Leon Avrech, was in middle school as a teacher, dept. chair, vice principal, principal and mentor teacher. The book takes you from the day you walk in to the office, the first of orientation, to your end of year evaluation. Topics in the book include lesson plans, back to school night, open house,…
