Random Acts of Kindness Week 2008: February 11-17, 2009 http://www.actsofkindness.org/ what will your classes do?
I challenge you to: (ideas from the website)
1. Welcome Winter Gloves
Purchase a pair of winter gloves for someone in your community.
2. Set up a Custodian Appreciation Day and have students clean classrooms for the custodian. Make a banner or card telling your custodian how much he is appreciated.
3. Create a bulletin board where kids write their… Continue

There are three things I teach learners never to put online:
1. their name
2. their photo
3. their location
We, in parentis loci, should not be doing these either. Learners in my rooms choose and use screen names and avatars. We will say the city and town and country of our school for collaborations but not our street address.
Alec Couros' recent post http://educationaltechnology.ca/couros/1203 puts this reason in perspective.

I challenge the network to incorporate the use of one technology tool in their teaching in the next fortnight. Then tell us about it on your blog. For example, you may ask kids to interview the oldest person in their neighborhood using a podcast. This can be done through what many kids (or their parents) already own-a cellphone. The interviewer simply calls into a Gabcast channel, set up easily by the teacher in advance, entering the secret… Continue

You, that's who! I need your input answering this question:
What my PLN means to me, how SL helps develop it, helps me to be a 21 century teacher?
Please go to Durff's Blog and leave your comments on that post. That way all the answers are in one place for that day. Thanks so much!

The network is challenged to click on all the adsense advertisements on any three blogs. Generate revenue for some blogger by actually clicking on the ads you never see for the words...
Make sure you use the word "networkchallenge#3" all in one word (without the quotes) in a comment you leave on those blogs.
Tell us about meeting the challenge by leaving a comment here… Continue
Why not a Twitterchallenge, you ask? This challenge is extended to the entire social network and to those who are online (which one must be to read about the challenge) but not in any particular social network.
I challenge you to navigate to two blogs to which you have never been, read their thoughts, reflect on their posts, & then leave an intelligent comment which you should use the word 'networkchallenge' in one word within your comment. Once you have met… Continue

This summer the Olympics are taking place in a country that is assisting genocide in another country AND in their own.
I call for a boycott! My small contribution will be to NOT watch the Olympics. I'm not an athlete (good thing or we would surely lose) so I can't refuse to participate that way. I'm not the CEO of a major funding source for the games. What I can and will do is not tune in to any tv… Continue

I need recommendations! I am teaching grades 4-9 summer
blogging - a one week crash course. Kids are likely to continue
blogging after the course ends. They are social creatures. I would
like you to suggest opensource, zero download, safe tools for this
bunch. I'm thinking I would like to set these up with safe email, too. You're the educators, you tell me!
