Introduction...

Hello Everyone!

I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and let everyone know why I have joined the group.

I am not actually a teacher, but a human rights activist. I write on children's rights for the Foreign Policy Association (FPA). I do work with children as a child care provider, and have worked with the learning disabled.

I have joined the group to hear from those on the front lines of our children's future on what they think is important, and… Continue

Spam Scam Alert!!

This is what I sent out to many people in my address book tonight and I thought others my benefit from my *cough* experience.

If you are receiving this email, it is because you came in contact with me via email sometime in the last decade. There is a nefarious social networking site that has spammed people's address books, including mine unfortunately. Please do not accept any invitations to join anything appearing to be from… Continue

More Input Requested--User Expectations?

You all have really given me some great information in the past, so I'm going to the well yet again! Our district is faced with the urgent need to create a document defining our expectations for student and teacher use of the read/write web. If you have any suggestions or experiences to share, please do so here or on my other blog. Thank you, again!

Firm Sues Forum To Silence Critics - What does this mean to you???

Firm Sues Forum To Silence Critics

I am in shock over this article. The mere fact it can get to court is enough to send me spinning. Not sure how we can alter what is happening in Oz but we need to work out something and quick.

If this goes through and a precedent is set, best I look for a cave to live in as I am sure someone will hunt me down and I do not think…

(net)work-a-holic

As school began, I promised myself that I wouldn’t allow my network connections to interfere with my work. As last year came to a close, I was finding that much of my evening was spent checking the various

networks of which I was part and keeping up with the ever-growing RSS

feeds in my reader of choice. Once the summer began and I was able to

“denetwork”, I realized that there had to be a better way to stay

connected and informed without spending all that time checking…

Tuesday September 11

Today I meet with my supervisor and after our discussion I am looking forward in having her view one of my classes. We discussed a few things such as joining the students with the Do Now. There might be more efficiency and participation from the students if I model with them. We also discussed graduate school and I recieved some feedback. Still unsure as what I am going to do. After our meeting I jumped right into third period and taught the inclusion class the lesson. I tried working on the…

New Audio Cast

I have posted a new audio cast to this forum. My initial desire was to make it a podcast but is seems that classroom 2.0 dosen't know how to handle the xml file, so it is a link file from the website, To subscribe to it as a podcast click here . As I evolve from a desktop local apps user to a 2.0 (the internet is the computer) user I am finding that the transition is not as easy as one might be led to believe. The next week or so is… Continue

Who's in your network?

For the past 30 years I've been connecting workplace volunteers with inner city kids in Chicago, and building a network of peers, supporters and others who could all be working together to build a better infrastructure to support the growth of volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs, so that more of them would be "best practices" in expanding the network of adults helping kids to careers, using the Internet and it's elearning and networking tools, as part of the process.

My database now…

The other Sept. 11th in U.S. history...

Although September 11th will always be remembered for the World Trade Center, there was another significant element in American history on that date...in 1776. That was the day that the British and colonists met to try to avoid the American Revolution. They met at what is now called the Conference House in Staten Island, NY. More information about the meeting is at www.theconferencehouse.org. For those of us interested in technology, this meeting gives us a great opportunity. Imagine if classes… Continue

Sharing Student Voice: Students Presenting at Conferences

Hi all Classroom 2.0-ers!

I just finished a new whitepaper, Sharing Student Voice: Students Presenting at Conferences. There is more about it on the GenYES blog, but in short, it's about how planning and presenting at a conference can be a part of enabling student… Continue

September 10, 2007

The good old Monday mornings. Running late today because I had to put the top on my Jeep and thankfully, I was safe from the rain. I did manage to get to school on time however. Today, I handed out the book projects for the 8th graders to do. Most of them did not seem excited as they find these projects monotonous. The book project consists of students taking on the voice of a journalist and writing a newspaper article on the mystery that they just read. There are five questions that the…

Web2.0 Practices in the Act of Teaching

Since I joined Classroom 2.0, people have been great to share, so I read and reply within the different forums that interest me. Today, I took a look at the Professional Development Forum, particularly a How To discussion started by Jason Hando.

Like Jason, I am planning a web2.0 professional development session,… Continue

New spin on web 2.0

My spin on web 2.0 is that it is the future of computing in schools / k-12 education. The real question is when? 2.0 has great potential, the question is, how will districts manage access and who will host what apps. Will we be using Google apps in the form of a premium service such as business are starting to do now or will this be a local issue. There are some every important discussions that need to take place at…
