It is dreadful when we hear of children choosing to take their own lives. This is about suicides committed by young children, usually in their teens. How would you as a parent feel when you read about such an act been committed? Does it not conjure up images of the goings on in that family? Most of the times it is human interactions that are in question. The first reaction is shock, followed by sympathy. Then we… Continue
Getting a que from Helen I asked several of my Summer Robotics class "What will they do if they found out that they are robots?" Here are their quick replies:
"If I found out that I'm a robot, I will just tell some members of my family whom I trust most to keep it a secret. I will help them if I had more abilities like teach them how to play the guitar."
Audrey Sarai P. Manabat, 12 years old
" I will be proud as a robot, because I was built for a cause, instead… Continue

I think I have corrected all of my problems now. It seems that the major problem was IE. Now that I have tried using Firefox everything seems fine. Let's hope that this trend continues and I may blog until my heart is complete.
Of course it is but how does knowing stuff help when looking through thousands of lines of computer code because a program crashes without any error messages? How can knowing stuff help you manage a financial crisis at your company? If I read Shakespeare, will that allow me to work effectively in a team to brainstorm ideas to improve productivity of my company's manufacturing line? By the way, two of the members live in China and one lives in Europe and… Continue

Thanks to Classroom 2.0, I added Voicethread to my list of options in creating Mother's Day greetings this year. Students drew an image in Kid Pix, saved it as a jpeg and put it into the shared folder. Then we put the images into voicethread and each child recorded a mother's day greeting. Mothers were given the URL to the voicethread and invited to comment on their child's work. To include a sample of the… Continue

I was asked to present at a conference for regional teachers in SW Victoria, Australia today. The conference was called "It is a digital thing" and was held at Deakin University in Warrnambool. My topic was 'where to start with web2.0' so I am sharing the powerpoint presentation that I spoke along to, for any interested parties. Please note that these are my personal opinions and based on my relatively brief experience in its use.…
Today I would like to draw your attention to an excellent Blog of my colleague Ulrike Montgomery who has collected and structured information and material for the use of web 2.0 and moodle for teaching. Here is her blog: "Was ist Web2.0????
Die Verbindung Moodle+Web2.0 bietet zahlreiche Möglichkeiten für den Unterricht. Der Vorteil besteht darin, dass die Kursräume interessanter und optisch… Continue

I've recently compiled more "The Best..." lists, including ones on online slideshow creation sites, sites for students to learn economics and practical money skills, and sites to learn about the presidential election.
I'd like to share with you a great website I've found which you can use to set up an online book club for students. www.anobii.com allows you to create a bookshelf. Just enter the titles or ISBN numbers of the books you want to put on the record, and then the book covers will appear on your shelf, complete with links to Amazon and Google and reviews written by other users of the site. You can post comments on books and indicate whether you have started… Continue

I am learning and rushing and trying to beat the clock to get things done each day but this is too funny. Instead of slowing down and finding resources' names who I am reflecting about, I have failed, thinking, "Who in the world will look at me, my page, my thoughts, my blog?" But when referring to a lady and a guy...few days later, they were there! commenting! I love it! Now I feel like I have actually people interested in my thoughts and am a part of their network. This is great! I have not… Continue

I recently did a screencast on using two different tools to gather data from teachers and see it in interesting ways. In the screencast I demo the use of Google's survey in their online spreadsheet, and analysis of the results in InspireData software.
