Social Networking and Education

It took me awhile but now I can say that I am hooked on Social Networking! After playing around with many Web 2.0 tools like Wikis and Blogs, I didn't think that I could find a use for Social Networking such as Facebook. Help protect schools from budget cuts!

Hi,

Schools have already endured harsh budget cuts this year. Now the governor is proposing to cut another $223 million from city schools. We must urge our lawmakers in Albany to protect our classrooms. Implementing such cuts at the midpoint of the school year would mean dismantling existing programs and reorganizing classes, which would be particularly disruptive for students. Remember -- kids don’t get a second chance.

Hands on learning

I am looking for research on the benefits of active or hands on learning. Can anyone point me to some? I am needing to define hands on learning, show the benefits in the classroom, how it is best incorporated, how it can keep students engaged, examples in schools, and how it can be integrated into the current classroom settings. Google Wave

I've given Google Wave invites to a few Classroom 2.0 participants and a few folks from the worldwide ReUse movement.

I've been thinking that there could be some mutual benefits to connecting the two discrete communities of people. Perhaps we'll do a bit of playing around with that on Google Wave once a few more folks get connected.

Google Wave certainly seems to have lots of potential.

Busy-interesting-learning -week

I am so looking forward to the weekend so I can play around with some of the tools I have discovered this week. Most recently xtranormal.com and the ability to make an animated video in minutes. It's clunky and a little bumpy but I never lost any work. The students reacted well to the presentations and tomorrow the students will give it a test drive.

I have updated the JS Maths Wiki with some student contributions. Inequalities with examples and audio explanations. Listen while you try your homework.
